Alternative Service Breaks hosts one Weekend Service Retreat each Fall and Spring Semester. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to get involved with the ASB program and doing community service with other students at UK. Students will take part in group building exercises, reflection, and direct service. Additionally, students will get a chance for a hands-on educational experience about the service issue and will be introduced to further volunteer options that are available in the Lexington area.
Center for Courageous Kids, Scottsville, KY $20/person
Theme: Children with Autism February 1-3, 2013
Alternative Service Breaks (ASB) and Project Health are having a weekend service trip from February 1 – 3 to the Center for Courageous Kids. During this weekend service trip, we will be volunteering at the CCK in Scottsville, KY, working with children affected by autism. CCK provides a camp-like experience for children with extraordinary medical challenges and their families. At the camp, we will serve as den counselors to children and families participating in Autism Family Weekend, which will allow volunteers to be matched with a family and to be a liaison with the camp. This is an extremely rewarding experience and I strongly encourage all of you to consider joining us! Applications are due by Monday, January 28th by 4 pm to the Student Center Ticket Office along with a $20 program fee. More information about the Center for Courageous Kids organization can be found at their website: http://www.thecenterforcourageouskids.org/.
